On a recent visit to Sweden, I had the pleasure of visiting the castle of Roserberg.
'At Rosersberg Palace, north of Stockholm, time has stood still. The rooms remain almost untouched from the 1795-1860 period, with well-preserved interiors and collections. King Karl XIV Johan and Queen Desideria were the last members of royalty to live here'
It is the most remarkable time capsule - and had some delightful surprises.

Sounds a splendid trip. I am very intrigued by the Kreigspiel set , particularly the board/map. I assumed that kriegspiel was just conducted on maps only, this appears to be something different altogether. I would be fascinated to hear more…

Reckon I'd be interested in a closer look at the Kriegspiel set as well. I didn't realise that Bernadotte was such a martial Marshal...
ReplyDeleteThank you - and from the date of the Palace and the collection I think it is 'pre Kriegspiel'. It is quite an extraordinary experience, and a candlelight service in the Chapel was remarkable.

ReplyDeleteAlas, no rules - but the full set of pieces and flags &c. It looks early C19th, and was in superb condition. A fascinating place to visit and all the beautiful paintings from the 1788 naval campaign in the archipelago
